A radiant barrier is a reflective layer installed where it can face an air space, usually on the underside of the roof deck. It addresses radiant heat. It is not the same thing as a thick layer of insulation on the attic floor, and it does not replace that layer.

The work
The foil has to face an air space to do what it is built to do. Laid flat under a pile of insulation, or buried against the deck with no gap, it is just a sheet. The attic is looked at before anyone staples foil to the rafters. Existing floor insulation, ventilation, and roof type all change whether a barrier belongs there.
The floor layer people usually mean by insulation is blown-in insulation or fiberglass.
Why it matters
A radiant barrier is a specific tool for radiant heat in a vented attic. It is not a coating that cuts a percentage off a bill, and no percentage is promised. If the attic floor is bare, the floor insulation comes first.
The visit says whether this attic is a candidate, including when it is not.
What to expect
The attic is inspected, the barrier and the price are explained only if it fits, and installation waits for your approval.
A1 Chimney & Roofing is a nationwide team with its own licensed and insured technicians in 27 states. The price is explained before any work starts. Homeowners have left 25,719 Google reviews with a 5.0 rating.
