What is a chimney cricket?

Crickets are for chimneys wide enough that water and debris sit at the uphill face. The cricket is framed, sheathed, and tied into the shingles with flashing. It is not a piece of metal leaned against the brick, and it is not a substitute for step flashing along the sides.

The joint itself, when the metal has failed, is flashing repair. A leak that is not at the chimney is roof leak repair.
