Chimney Brick Repair

Spalled brick is brick whose face has popped off, usually after water got in and froze. A cracked brick can also come from movement or from a fire that overheated the masonry. The damaged units are cut out and new brick is set to match the bond as closely as the available brick allows.

If the mortar around those bricks is also gone, the joints are repacked as part of the same repair. A chimney that is leaning, or whose bricks have shifted in a wide area, may need a rebuild of that section instead of a few new bricks.
