What is a Level 1 chimney inspection?

The firebox, the damper, the readily visible flue, the cap, and the outside of the chimney are checked. It is the inspection that pairs with a routine sweep. It does not include a full interior survey of the flue and it does not open concealed spaces.

A sale, a change of fuel, a chimney fire, or a quake or storm calls for Level 2. If Level 1 or Level 2 cannot reach a suspected problem, that is Level 3.
